The Allied W8L is a proven winch platform that has been in production for many years. With a maximum line pull rating of 113,000 lbs it's a formidable winch. In the right circumstances the W8L can be a more cost effective winch option for the CAT D8 dozer class.
The W8L was originally spec'd as an additional option the CAT D8R and D8T, but the pulling power of the W8L historically has been more suited to D7 class dozers. The added weight of the D8T compared to D7R or D7G increases the potential for operators to overwork the winch. If you are pulling heavy loads repeatedly Thomson Equipment and DozerWinchParts.com recommend upgrading to the W12E, but not everyone needs the extreme puling power of a W12E winch. If you are looking for a cost effective recovery winch the W8L might be the right winch for you. We only recommend the W8L for D8T when equipped with slow speed gear ratio, and in applications that are within the W8L load range.
